Aethel Audio vs ElevenReader

ElevenReader is ElevenLabs' own reading app: it reads documents, articles and books aloud in ElevenLabs voices, and its free plan is generous. Aethel is narrower. It is built for technical material, where equations need to be spoken as maths and figures need describing, and it adds study tools around the narration. If you mostly listen to prose, ElevenReader is excellent value. If your reading is full of notation, try the same chapter in both.

Test it on your hardest page

The fairest comparison is your own material. Import the same maths-heavy chapter into both and listen to a page with equations. Here is what Aethel says for a classic:

Machine learning

Attention(Q, K, V) = softmax(QKᵀ / √dₖ)V

Aethel says

Attention of Q, K, V equals softmax of the quantity QK transpose over the square root of d sub k, times V

Vaswani et al., “Attention Is All You Need”, NeurIPS 2017, equation 1

Questions

Aethel's Pro plan uses ElevenLabs voices. Why does it cost more than ElevenReader?

Aethel's price covers more than the voice: equation and figure handling, explanations, translation and review cards, each of which runs AI models on your chapter. If you only need a voice for prose, ElevenReader is the better deal, and Aethel's Pro Reader plan uses lower-cost standard voices.

Can I use both?

Yes. Many readers keep a general reader for articles and use Aethel for the technical books where notation matters.
